Live Like We’re Dying

 

Because We ALL Are Dying

There’s only one way out of this life, and that’s to move on to the next dimension. Whether you believe that to be non-existence, or another dimension where we exist in another form, the day will come when we shed “this mortal coil”.
 
John Thunderwolf, a teacher of mine, said it at the beginning of a men’s weekend once: “We all have to stop living as if we’re never going to die.”
 
Living as if we’re never going to die is a lie. It tells us that we can go on focusing on things that don’t matter. It says we can worry about the important things later. But there may not be a “later”.
 
I’m a weight loss and fitness coach in Mississauga, Ontario, who works to help people lose weight and get in to the best shape of their lives. An understanding of our own mortality is, I believe, one of the most important things we can have if we want to lose weight.
 

I’ll get a ROUND TUIT

I have these great little wooden circles, about the size of a piece from a checkers board, that say “TUIT” on them. They’re “Round Tuits”…I give them to people who say they’ll “get around to” doing things, but never do. It’s an anti-procrastination device, and they’re good to keep in our pockets.
 
So many of us put off our weight loss programs. It’s not convenient now because it’s summer. Or I’m going on vacation. Or it’s Christmas. Or it’s the weekend and I can start Monday…blah, blah, blah.
 

When will you GET AROUND TO IT?

The best time to start is now. The best way to quit smoking is to pitch the pack in the trash with 9 left in it. The best way to lose your weight is to get rid of the crap in your house now, stop going to restaurants and fast food places for the next 3 to 6 months, and start eating healthier. Seriously. Right now. Not tomorrow.
In my experience, tomorrow rarely comes.
 

We May Not Have Time

Jean, my ex-client, is 41. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, and never really smoked.
Bill, the 20-something son of another ex-client of mine, was killed in a motorcycle accident a little over a week ago.
James, a personal friend of mine, took his own life about 1 ½ months ago due to mental illness.
Folks, we just don’t know how much time we have left.
 
So, if you’re not going to do it now, when will you? And why not now? It doesn’t matter if your life is rough-going right now: this would be the perfect time to do it!!! Honestly! Because if you can do it successfully when things are bad, then imagine how easy it will be when they’re good. And, you’ll be confident you can weather any situation in the future without having to eat over it.
 

Now Is the Time

Right now. Today. Get to it. Get AROUND TO IT!!! Git ‘er done! There’s no sense in waiting.
