WHY I BECAME A PERSONAL TRAINER
Many of you are familiar with my story, but some of you aren’t. I’d like to tell you little bit about why became a Mississauga weight loss coach and Mississauga personal trainer. My reasons are perhaps a little bit different from those of other trainers.
First off, I have a background in business as well is in pastoring churches. By the time 2006 rolled around I had grown a bit disenchanted by my seeming inability to be able to make a real difference in the business world. Several years prior to that I had decided that I no longer wanted to participate actively in religion, but I still wanted to help people.
In 2001 my weight had hit an all-time high of 255 pounds. I had a 48 inch waist. For a guy who had been a high school athlete, this was not good. Having recently left my marriage of eight years, I decided that I wanted to lose the weight that I’d put on during the marriage. So I set about trying to do it on my own, and didn’t have much success. Between 2001 and 2003 I only managed to lose about 10 pounds.
Furthermore, being overweight has so many complications for your health. My friend who is a first aid trainer told me that carrying too much extra weight has huge implications for your heart and can even increase your risk of going into cardiac arrest. This is why first aid training like the Mississauga Cpr Training courses available at C2C First Aid & Aquatics Inc are such an asset – when it comes down to it, someone trained in first aid and CPR can save lives. Losing weight was therefore a way to reduce my risk of serious injury.
In trying to do it on my own I had read books, scoured articles, and done many other things trying to find the secret to permanent weight loss. I had been an overweight guy most of my life. I would gain it, then I would lose it, only to gain it back again. By the time 2001 had rolled around, I was the largest I had ever been. My doctor was concerned about my health. My body mass index was 37, meaning that I was severely obese. I was 34 years old, and it was pretty much inevitable that I would start to experience health problems if I continued on this path.
In the research I’d done I had learned a lot about macro-nutrient ratios, protein, carbs, fat, and the amount of each that I was supposed to be eating. The problem was that all I really wanted was someone to just tell me what to do. I didn’t want to have to figure it out for myself. I wanted someone to hand me a diet I could follow, simple as that.
So in 2003, after becoming entirely fed up, I turned to a man who specialized in weight loss, paid him a bunch of money I didn’t really have, and received a food plan that changed my life. It was the single best investment I have ever made.
In just six months, through a strict regimen of eating and weight training at the gym, I had managed to lose 85 pounds of body fat. Today I realize that my rate of fat loss was actually a little bit too quick, probably because I was over-exercising. But the fact of the matter was that, at the end of the project, I had changed my body from that of being obese to being lean and muscular. I loved the feeling.
But I had gained and lost weight several times in the past. Who was to say it would be any different this time? I was skeptical that I would be able to keep the weight off, since I had failed so many times in the past.
But a year went by. Then two. Then three. By this time, I realized that I had hit on something. I believed that I had discovered the secret to permanent weight loss.
So I quit my $90,000 a year job, sold my sports car, took a course to become a certified personal trainer, and set out to find clients who I could help. Ever since that time I’ve been helping people who struggle with weight loss to successfully lose weight and get in shape. Today I am both a Mississauga personal trainer and a Mississauga weight loss coach. My passion is to help people who have tried everything else yet have had no success. I know what it’s like to continually lose the battle against gaining weight.
I have a unique approach to the problem of overweight and obesity.
First, I believe the problem must be properly diagnosed. Most of the weight loss industry consider overweight and obesity just a single problem. They believe that the solution is exercise and eating right. Whereas these things are certainly required, there are often other factors at that must be addressed, depending on what type of problem eater you are. Ignore those factors, and you run the risk of applying the wrong solution to the problem.
My goal is to apply the right solution to the problem, so that you never have to pay anyone else ever again to help you lose weight. I think that’s the ethical way of approaching it.
